Psychotherapy Education Section
The DPE Psychotherapy Education Section offers support, programming and resources to training directors and faculty of APsA affiliated psychoanalytic psychotherapy programs in the education of their psychotherapy students. There are approximately 36 psychotherapy programs across the country which range from 1-year fellowships to 3 year programs, with a few combined with the first two years of psychoanalytic training. We bring together the many voices and faces of our psychoanalytic psychotherapy programs across the country. We also bring together training directors and faculty, both virtually and in person, to share ideas, resources, and problems as they endeavor to create meaningful and effective psychoanalytic psychotherapy programs for future generations of clinicians who will keep the psychoanalytic tradition alive.

To fulfill our mission and vision, the DPE Psychotherapy Education Section offers an annual workshop on topics of common interest related to psychotherapy curriculum development, teaching, supervising, and trouble-shooting various issues that arise in psychoanalytic
psychotherapy training programs. We maintain a website tab for psychoanalytic psychotherapy which includes live hyper-links to the programs affiliated with APsA. We also offer a dedicated list-serve for psychotherapy training directors and faculty to share information and seek support from each other. Additionally, the DPE Psychotherapy Education Section offers via the APsA website a database of actual bibliographies and syllabi voluntarily posted for faculty use by various institutes and centers. We plan to expand this database with more such resources. At the meetings we also co-host, with the APsA Psychotherapy Department, a networking event for those involved or interested in psychotherapy programs.
