Announcing the 2026 Book Prize Winner

New York, NY — January 29, 2026 — The American Psychoanalytic Association (APsA) is pleased to announce that Alexander Kriss, Ph.D. is the recipient of the 2026 Book Prize of the American Psychoanalytic Association for his book Borderline: The Biography of a Personality Disorder (Beacon Press, 2024). The award winner was announced on January 29, 2026, during the Peter Loewenberg Essay Prize session at the APsA National Meeting.

Formerly known as the Courage to Dream Book Prize, the Book Prize of the American Psychoanalytic Association recognizes an outstanding book published in English that advances the engagement of psychoanalysis with academic disciplines in the humanities and social sciences. Eligible works explore intersections with fields such as history, literature, philosophy, anthropology, sociology, political science, and the arts, and are written for a readership that extends beyond clinical psychoanalysis.

About the Book Prize

The Book Prize carries a $500 award and is sponsored by the Committee on Psychoanalysis and the Academy of the American Psychoanalytic Association. The Book Prize of the American Psychoanalytic Association is awarded to a book that best promotes psychoanalytic engagement with the humanities and social sciences.
