Revised HIPAA Privacy Rules

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has enacted new rules which impact existing privacy, security, and breach notification requirements. HIPAA covered practitioners will have update their Business Associate Agreements and their Notices of Privacy Practices by September 23, 2013. Find out more here.

HIPAA and United States v. Windsor

HHS Office of Civil Rights on the impact of the Supreme Court’s decision in United States v. Windsor on the application of the HIPAA Privacy Rule, specifically with respect to who can be regarded as a family member or spouse for the purposes of disclosing identifiable health information. The OCR has provided guidance on the Windsor decision.
