JAPA Launches New Video Interviews Featuring Authors from the Journal
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 8, 2026 — New York, NY — The American Psychoanalytic Association (APsA) announces the launch of a new video interview series highlighting contributors to the Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association (JAPA). The series offers an in-depth exploration of some of the journal’s most widely read and discussed papers through conversations with their authors.
Designed to extend the reach and accessibility of JAPA’s scholarship, the series features long-form interviews with authors whose work has resonated strongly with readers. These conversations provide additional context, clinical insight, and reflection beyond the published page, creating new entry points into psychoanalytic thinking for a broad audience.
The videos will primarily feature recently published articles—particularly those identified as “most read”—as a way to engage with topics that are actively shaping contemporary psychoanalytic discourse. Each interview runs approximately 45 minutes and is produced for digital distribution, with full-length videos available on YouTube and shorter excerpts adapted for social media platforms including LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook.
“This initiative builds on the strength of JAPA’s archive while responding to how audiences engage with content today,” said Gregory Rizzolo, Editor of JAPA. “By inviting authors to revisit their work in a conversational format, we’re able to deepen understanding and broaden access to psychoanalytic ideas.”
The series is supported by a collaborative team that includes undergraduate and graduate students, psychoanalytic candidates, and early-career professionals. Participants contribute to article selection, author outreach, and interview development to curate a series that reflects a wide range of perspectives across the psychoanalytic community.
In addition to promoting existing scholarship, the series is intended to encourage future submissions by increasing visibility for JAPA authors and demonstrating the continued relevance of psychoanalytic inquiry in contemporary clinical and cultural contexts.
The first video was released in April 2026 featuring Steven Cooper and his paper “The Play of Mourning.” The remaining video interviews will be released monthly on the third Wednesday of the month with featured authors including Michael Shulman, Donnel Stern, Griffin Hansbury, and Mark Schechter.
