This talk will endeavor to address appropriate concerns while also revisiting the utility of a psychoanalytic approach toward patients with schizophrenia and other psychotic illness. We will review of the history of the seminal contributions of psychoanalytic thinkers to theories of psychosis, as well as their applications. The benefits, limitations and dangers of psychoanalytic treatments of psychosis will be addressed.
