This course reviews the evolution of a relational holding model that bridges the space between Winnicottian and relational thinking. I begin with a review of Winnicottian holding, the relational critique of developmental tilt models, and then present my proposed resolution of that gap. Offering a retrospective critique of my own model, I also revisit a more traditional analytic concept—resistance—and consider its role in contemporary work.
