Nominations must originate with candidates. APsA Candidates’ Council encourages faculty and administrators to promote the award, but candidates must put the nomination forward.

The selection process is blinded. Please include a cover sheet listing the nominee’s name and contact information, the candidate nominator(s)’ names and contact information, and the institute or center name. Blind the remainder of the application, removing the nominee’s name, the candidate nominator(s)’ names, and the institute or center’s name and location, as well as any reference to age, gender, or race. Where the nominee’s own publications appear (for example, in a syllabus bibliography), black out the author’s name, paper title, journal, and issue so the reference cannot be traced to the nominee. Use “this instructor” or “this teacher” rather than “he” or “she.”

Submit nomination packets to your institute or center administrator, who reviews each one for completeness and confirms proper blinding. If an administrator receives more than one packet, the candidates who submitted them decide which nominee to put forward for the year. APsA Candidates’ Council accepts only one packet per institute or center.

How to Nominate

To make a nomination, please submit the following as a single PDF:

1. A letter of nomination (maximum two pages) from the candidate body at your institute or center. The letter should describe what makes the nominee’s teaching excellent and should address six criteria: Teaching Effectiveness; Innovative Teaching Methods; Learner Engagement; Feedback and Assessment; Applicability to Practice; and Sociocultural Surround. It should also name the courses or programs taught, with approximate dates.
   1. Teaching Effectiveness: Communication of complex psychoanalytic concepts clearly and effectively
   2. Innovative Teaching Methods: Inclusion of non-lecture based teaching methods, adapts teaching style to student needs
   3. Learner Engagement: Fosters critical thinking, application to clinical material, and promotes student engagement the the material
   4. Feedback and Assessment: Provides feedback to students at end of term or integrated throughout class via instructor responses
   5. Applicability to Practice: Material can be easily translated into clinical work
   6. Sociocultural Surround: Integrates cultural context – both current and past culture of the time material was developed

2. Supporting materials: class outlines, syllabi, class transcripts, and the like (maximum ten pages).
