The Ernst and Gertrude Ticho Memorial Award and Lecture

Presentation of paper: To take place during the 2028 National Meeting at the New York Hilton Midtown from Sunday, February 13 to Thursday, February 17, 2028. 

The Ernst and Gertrude Ticho Memorial Award and Lecture recognizes and fosters the work of a promising early-career psychoanalyst who has made contributions to the field through teaching, writing, research, and applied and/or clinical work.

The Ticho Lecture was inaugurated in June 2006 with the generous support of the Ernst and Gertrude Ticho Charitable Foundation.

PRIZE

• The opportunity to present an original paper on a topic of the award winner’s choosing during APsA’s 2028 National Meeting.  Please note that the presentation must be unpublished prior to the 2028 National Meeting. JAPA holds the right of first refusal.
• Up to $550 reimbursed for travel
• Two nights at the hotel
• $3000 honorarium

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Eligibility:

• The Ticho Award is open to early-career graduates from APsA Institutes as well as candidates approved for graduation by the time of the Ticho Lecture in 2028.
• Applicants must be available to present their paper during APsA’s 2028 National Meeting.
• Applicants must be APsA members in good standing with all dues current.

Application Materials:

1. Personal Statement: The statement should give the selection committee a sense of the applicant’s voice, career trajectory, goals, interests, and passions in the field. If applicants already have a topic in mind, they are welcome to briefly discuss the paper they would present at the National Meeting. The statement should include accomplishments to date and future intentions regarding psychoanalytic practice, science, and scholarship. The statement should be no more than three double-spaced pages in length. The file name structure should be: last name_first name_Personal Statement_Ticho Award.
2. Curriculum Vitae: The file name structure should be: last name_first name_Curriculum Vitae_Ticho Award.
3. One letter of recommendation from a mentor or colleague in the field. Recommenders can email letters directly to the address below or they can be included in the application. The file name structure should be: last name_first name_Recommendation_Ticho Award.
4. One sample of previous work. Examples include: Published or unpublished article, Video link to a presentation, Podcast Interview, etc. The file name structure should be: last name_first name_Previous Work_Ticho Award.
