In-Training Member Information

Psychoanalysts-In-Training, Psychotherapists-In-Training, Academics-In-Training and Researchers-In-Training can join APsA to identify with, support and advance psychoanalysis. APsA provides members with direct benefits to meet the needs of psychoanalytic candidates, psychotherapy trainees, academics, scholars and researchers.

Psychoanalyst-In-Training Member

Psychoanalysts-In-Training (candidates) accepted for full clinical psychoanalytic training in an APsA approved institute or new training facility are eligible for Psychoanalyst-In-Training Member.  New candidates seeking to join will receive an application once notification of enrollment is received from the institute. Candidates in non-clinical (academic) training in an APsA approved institute are eligible to join the Academic-In-Training Member category of membership.

  • Candidates in clinical psychoanalytic training at a Component Society of the International Psychoanalytical Association (IPA) are eligible.  To join: (1) click here to complete the IPA candidate application and (2) complete the IPA Society Training Verification Form.

Psychotherapist-In-Training Member

Psychotherapists-In-Training (trainees) in a clinical psychoanalytic psychotherapy program at an APsA approved training facility, or those who demonstrate enrollment in an equivalent clinical psychotherapy training program can join as a Psychotherapist-In-Training Member.

  • Trainees enrolled in a clinical psychoanalytic/psychodynamic psychotherapy program at an APsA approved institute, please click here to join today.
Coming later this year:  An application for psychotherapy trainees who are training at a psychoanalytic psychotherapy program outside of APsA, will be able to apply by demonstrating equivalent clinical psychotherapy training.    If you are enrolled in a clinical psychoanalytic/psychodynamic psychotherapy program that is not affiliated with an APsA approved institute, please click here to contact membership services to be added to the  application waitlist.

Academic-In-Training Member

Academics-In-Training (trainees) in an academic (non-clinical) program at an APsA approved training facility, or those who demonstrate enrollment in an equivalent psychoanalytic academic program are eligible to join as an Academic-In-Training Member.
