Ernst and Gertrude Ticho Memorial Award

The Ernst and Gertrude Ticho Memorial Award and Lecture recognizes and fosters the work of a promising early-career psychoanalyst who has made contributions to the field through teaching, writing, research, and applied and/or clinical work.

The Ticho Lecture was inaugurated in June 2006 with the generous support of the Ernst and Gertrude Ticho Charitable Foundation.

Applicants may self-nominate or be nominated by someone of the applicant’s choice.

PRIZE

  • Presentation of an original paper on a topic of the award winner’s choosing at APsA’s 2025 National Meeting, February 4-9 at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco
  • Airfare to APsA’s 2025 National Meeting
  • Two nights at the conference hotel
  • $3000 honorarium

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Eligibility:

  • The Ticho Award is open to early-career graduates from APsA Institutes as well as candidates approved for graduation by the time of the Ticho Lecture in 2025.
  • Applicants may self-nominate or be nominated by someone of the applicant’s choice.
  • Applicants must be available to present their paper at the 2025 National Meeting. The specific date will be announced when available.

Application Materials:

  • Personal Statement: The statement should give the selection committee a sense of the applicant’s voice, career trajectory, goals, interests, and passions in the field. If applicants already have a topic in mind, they are welcome to briefly discuss the paper they would present at the National Meeting. The statement should include accomplishments to date and future intentions regarding psychoanalytic practice, science, and scholarship. The statement should be no more than three single- or double- spaced pages in length.
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Letter of recommendation from a mentor or colleague in the field. Recommenders can email letters directly to the address below.
  • Optional paper submitted with application.

For applicants not chosen for the 2025 Ticho Award, their application is active for consideration for 3 years. It can be updated or left as it was originally submitted.
