Robert Jay Lifton is a psychiatrist, author, public intellectual, and social activist. His books include Death in Life: Survivors of Hiroshima (winner of a National Book Award), Home from the War: Learning from Vietnam Veterans (nominated for a National Book Award), The Nazi Doctors: Medical Killing and the Psychology of Genocide (winner of a Los Angeles Times Book Prize), Witness to an Extreme Century: A Memoir, and more recently Losing Reality: On Cults, Cultism, and the Mindset of Political and Religious Zealotry. He is Distinguished Professor Emeritus at CUNY, now Lecturer in Psychiatry at Columbia University.
