Psychoanalysis and The Academy 111590

Committee Type: Academic and Professional Affairs Department

Description: The mission of this group is to engage in outreach on behalf of the American Psychoanalytic Association to the academic world, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. It seeks to promote dialogue between clinical psychoanalysts and scholars across the disciplines that use psychoanalysis in their teaching and research. It does so through an array of initiatives. These include the Courage to Dream Book Prize, the Peter Loewenberg Essay Prize in Psychoanalysis and Culture, the Undergraduate Essay Prize, the Tuition Support Program for Academics taking courses at APsaA institutes, and our guaranteed session at the annual convention of the Modern Language Association. The Committee works cooperatively with other components of the Department of Academic and Professional affairs to make APsaA a hospitable place for scholars and educators and to disseminate psychoanalytic ideas and perspectives in the culture at large.
