Committee Type: Membership Services and Programs Department
Description: The mission of this group is to serve as a resource and repository of accumulated experience and expertise on how to assist analysts with practice related or other professional activity problems that may arise from the analyst’s illness, aging or personal life. Local Psychoanalytic Assistance Committees (PACs) are responsible for developing the policies and procedures governing colleague assistance in their own communities and are the resource for addressing specific situations within their own communities. Although individual situations of compromised function may have ethical dimensions, the adjudication of ethics complaints is not considered a formal focus of Colleague Assistance but is the work of Ethics Committees. CCA mission includes active engagement in research, education and advocacy in the core and expanding scope of colleague assistance that now includes a focus on proactive health maintenance through the full professional life cycle.
