Committee Type: Social Issues Department
Description: The Committee on Gender and Sexuality was originally formed in 1992 as the Committee on Issues of Homosexuality. Presently, the Committee focuses on the broad spectrum of gendered and sexual experiences, including understanding the myriad workings of power surrounding the construction of gendered and sexual identities. We encourage dialogue about gender and sexuality through our discussion groups and workshops at each APsaA meeting, and present the Ralph E. Roughton Paper Award each year to encourage original contributions to the psychoanalytic understanding and treatment of LGBTQ individuals. We continue to encourage respect for all forms of gendered and sexual identity by authoring numerous APsaA position statements advocating LGBTQ civil rights.
