Committee Type: Committees of the Board of Directors
Description: The Committee on Honorary Membership consists of the President of the Association and the Councilors-at-Large who select their own chair. It is charged with two functions: 1. To identify, review and nominate to Council distinguished colleagues for election to honorary membership. While not eligible for regular membership, these nominees' clinical, scholarly, teaching, or research contributions in psychoanalysis or a related field have significantly advanced the science or practice of psychoanalysis or its applications. 2. To identify, review and nominate to Council distinguished contributors for awards in several categories of achievement. The following categories exemplify the scope intended for awards but are not exhaustive: A. For Distinguished Research in Psychoanalysis B. B. For Distinguished Practice Contributions (e.g., advancement in technique or in clinical theory). C. For Distinguished Service to the American D. For Distinguished Contributions in Child Psychoanalysis E. For Distinguished Contributions in Psychoanalysis and Public Policy (open to members and non-members of the APsaA F. for Distinguished Contributions to Applied Psychoanalysis (open to members and non-members of the APsaA.
