Under Construction

Membership in the American Psychoanalytic Association has recently (as of February 2023) expanded and now includes psychoanalysts, psychoanalytic psychotherapists, academics, researchers and others - all whose work is profoundly informed by psychoanalytic theory and values.  Policies and procedures are now being developed and changes will be implemented in phases.  During this period of implementation, we thank you for your patience as we prepare for this new and exciting membership expansion.

  • APsA Psychoanalyst-in-Training (Candidate) Members automatically become Psychoanalyst Members during one of APsA's two annual meetings, the National Meeting (winter) or the Annual Meeting (summer), whichever follows the notification of their graduation to the National Office.
  • Full members of the International Psychoanalytical Association (IPA) or graduates of an institute of an IPA component society (click here to request an IPA application).
  • Individual psychoanalysts who have trained outside of an APsA or IPA approved institute are also eligible through an expanded membership pathway application.
