2024 Membership Dues
Thank you for your continued support of the American Psychoanalytic Association.
General Information
PAYMENT
2024 dues payments are due by January 31, 2024. To maintain access to YOUR APsA benefits, community, and experiences, please renew upon receipt (scroll down to review voting deadlines).
APsA accepts all major credit cards, debit cards & electronic checks (ACH) in the Portal. If you are interested in setting up installment payments, please contact the National Office to set-up a dues payment plan.
HOW TO PAY YOUR DUES:
(a) Pay Online (apsa.org Member Dashboard):
Now you can Login to the APsA website (apsa.org) to access the portal to pay your dues.
- Login to the Member Dashboard using the email address on file with APsA.
- From the Member Dashboard, click on the balance OR click on “Access Member Portal” from the Dashboard.
- Click on My Profile under the Head Silhouette and choose My Account which will take you to your invoice OR click on the Bell under the Head Silhouette.
- Enter a check mark in the box next to invoice which will activate the Pay button.
- A receipt will be emailed following the payment transaction.

(b) Use the Direct Pay Link Emailed to you in your 2024 Invoice:
Direct payment can be made by clicking on the link sent to you. When entering payment, please click on “Validate Address & Save” for the CONFIRM button to become accessible. A receipt will be emailed following the payment transaction.
Note: APsA email tends to land in the Promotions, Social or Spam folders (especially for Gmail users) – so check these folders if you do not see the receipt or did not receive an invoice email by December 1st. APsA generated emails (dues invoices, statements, etc.) come from our AMS, Membersuite, and are sent from the following address: messages@app.production.membersuite.com – please update your ’email address book’ or ‘accept list’ and do not mark this address as SPAM.
(c) Pay Over the Phone:
You can call the National Office at (212) 752-0450 and provide the following information (Card #, Expiration date, Card code, Billing address of your card, and the Name on the card).

DEADLINES
2024 APsA dues payments are due by January 31, 2024. Please renew upon receipt to maintain uninterrupted access to your membership benefits and subscriptions.
Please note the following additional deadlines:
- VOTING IN APsA ELECTIONS: Clinical and Academic Members are eligible to vote in APsA elections. Community Members do not have voting privileges.

Per APsA’s procedures, “Voting Members must be in good standing 30 days prior to the opening of the polls to be eligible to vote.” (i.e. paid their annual dues by the deadlines below)

- For February Elections: Voting eligible members who have NOT paid their current annual dues prior to DECEMBER 1st are ineligible to vote in an APsA election the following February. Therefore, members who pay, reinstate or join after the December 1st deadline are ineligible to vote in the February election but will be eligible to vote in a potential June election as long as they no longer have an outstanding dues balance.
- For June Elections: Voting eligible members who have NOT paid the current year’s dues prior to MAY 1st are ineligible to vote in a June APsA election. Members who pay, reinstate or join after the May 1st deadline are ineligible to vote in the June election but will be eligible to vote in the next February election as long as they no longer have an outstanding dues balance.
- New IPSO Policy for Analysts-In-Training – in order to participate in IPSO’s 2024 events or receive an IPSO discount, your APsA/IPSO 2024 dues must be paid no later than by March 1, 2024. As per IPSO, dues received after this deadline will not receive event discounts.

RESIGNING FROM MEMBERSHIP
APsA policy requires a letter of resignation from members interested in resigning. You must submit a resignation request in writing to the National Office at membership@apsa.org or mail to APsA, 122 E 42nd St Suite 2310, New York, NY 10168-0002.
Membership is continuous unless we receive your request to resign in writing. Non-payment of dues does not constitute an automatic resignation (the member will have an outstanding balance under their account).
What are Bundled Dues?
Bundled dues means that your dues include subscriptions to JAPA and IJP-digital with your APsA dues. Therefore, you do not need to do anything to add your subscriptions – it’s already bundled in. Please proceed to pay as you normally would. Contact the National Office (info@apsa.org) if you have any questions.
Subscriptions & Voluntary Contributions
Subscriptions
JAPA – Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association:
APsA membership includes the option of subscribing to JAPA at a preferential rate. Current subscribers must remit their dues payment no later than January 31, 2024, to avoid subscription interruptions. If you are not a current subscriber, members can add an additional $95 to the total on your mailed invoice, request that JAPA be added to your invoice or order JAPA from the apsa.org Member Dashboard (login required). JAPA is published bimonthly. Member subscriptions include Print plus E-Access.

One of the world’s most respected publications in psychoanalysis, the Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association (JAPA) offers insightful and broad-based original articles, ground-breaking research, thoughtful plenary addresses, in-depth panel reports, perceptive commentaries, plus much more. Included in each issue is the esteemed JAPA Review of Books, which provides comprehensive reviews of and essays on recent notable literature. JAPA provides an important forum for the exchange of new ideas and highlights the contribution of psychoanalytic principles in helping to understand important social problems. JAPA explores all the important topics you need to stay on top of your profession—from clinical issues and innovations to new methodologies to education and professional development issues to interdisciplinary studies to emerging theories and techniques.
IJP – International Journal of Psychoanalysis:
For 2024, APsA offers as a member benefit an extremely reduced subscription to IJP for a digital subscription included with your bundled dues and subscriptions. IJP is again generously offering APsA members an 80% reduction on 2024 digital subscriptions for only $55 and 96% reduction for candidates at only $10. This very generous IJP discount is only available with your bundled dues and subscriptions. An IJP subscription entitles subscribers to access not only the current year of IJP but also the previous three years (2023, 2022, 2021) and to attend IJP Study Days online free of charge. - Subscribers will receive a welcome email directly from IJP once their subscription is processed. Anyone who wishes will be able to upgrade their subscription to a paper copy (six for the year) for just $35 as detailed in their IJP subscription welcome email.
The IJP, a publication of the British Psychoanalytical Society, is the main international vehicle for communication about psychoanalysis, enjoying a wide readership from Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia-Pacific, North America and Latin America. The IJP was founded precisely to be a vehicle of discussion and, crucially, constructive argument between individuals and psychoanalytic groupings across countries and continents.
Voluntary Contributions
VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTIONS
By making a voluntary donation of $100, you can make possible projects that can’t be funded through the normal operating budget. These include projects related (but not limited) to: Advocacy | Education | Practice Building | and more. Your support also makes possible APsA’s ability to respond to unexpected calls for action. 2024 Dues Categories & Explanations
Clinical Members
Psychoanalyst Senior Membership:
Opt-in retirement plan for Psychoanalyst Senior Member dues.
The Senior Member opt-in retirement plan, which began in January 2021, allows Psychoanalyst Clinical Members who have newly reached Senior status (having turned 70 in the previous calendar year and who have 10 years of membership) to request semi-retired or fully retired dues status.
- Semi-Retired – eligible members working less than 15 hours a week would pay dues equal to 2/3 of the Full Active Membership Dues rate.
- Retired – eligible members not deriving income from clinical practice (psychoanalysis, psychotherapy, clinical consultation, supervision, pharmacology, and testing) would pay dues equal to 1/3 of the Full Active Membership Dues rate. Fully retired members will be noted within the roster.
Semi-retired and retired members will retain all member benefits including voting and holding office. New 2024 Psychoanalyst Senior Members can complete a short form attesting to their eligibility by January 31, 2024 for the current dues year. Forms received after that date will not have their IPA dues reduced for the current year as the IPA finalizes member dues as of January 31st.
Senior Members (Prior to 2021): Psychoanalyst Clinical Members who were already psychoanalyst senior/life members as of January 2021 continue within their existing dues reduction schedule and will not be subject to the new plan. However, these members are invited to make donations equivalent to the dues applicable under the new plan and to participate in APsA’s fund-raising initiative, which can be found at apsa.org/ways-to-give.
IPA Senior Dues: Effective in 2021, the IPA annually invoices $100 dues to all senior/life dues-exempt psychoanalyst clinical members. Therefore, dues-exempt senior/life members will be billed $100 for IPA dues – in addition to any voluntary contributions and subscriptions. Please be advised that non-payment of this IPA dues results in no longer being an active voting IPA member.

Community Members
APsA membership categories are linked to the type of training completed and cannot be switched based on professional life changes. If you have any questions regarding your dues, please contact the Executive Director or the Membership Services Director.
#International Psychoanalytical Association (IPA) – for Psychoanalyst Clinical Members who satisfy all membership requirements of the IPA. IPA dues is not optional.
*International Psychoanalytical Studies Organization (IPSO) – for psychoanalytic candidates that meet the IPA’s training track requirements. Non-voting IPSO membership is available for psychoanalytic candidates that don’t meet the IPA’s training track requirements.
