Based on 20 years studying just such situations, Audrey Kavka, Stephanie Schechter and Robert Galatzer-Levy, members of the APsaA Committee on Colleague Assistance, will address these serious questions and dilemmas. The new, fictional vignette of this beloved senior analyst and his concerned colleagues will be presented and discussed from the multiple points of view and imagined conflict-laden internal dialogue of each of the involved colleagues as an assistance process proceeds from concern to engagement. This panel illustrates an approach articulated in the Psychoanalyst Assistance Casebook that supports hope for reasonable outcomes for all with genuine appreciation of the serious challenges of these painful situations.
