APsA invites poster submissions to be considered for presentation at the 2025 APsA National Meeting, which convenes from February 4 – February 9, 2025. The 2025 Poster Session will be held in person at the Palace Hotel on Friday, February 7 from 11:15 am–4 pm.
Poster Award
- First authors who are new or early career investigators are eligible for consideration for the 2025 American Psychoanalytic Association Poster Award ($500). The Award will go to the poster recognized as most noteworthy, judged based on substantive significance, innovation, and quality of presentation.
Purpose and Focus of APsA Poster Session
- Poster topic focus may be as follows:
- Conceptual and/or empirical relevance to psychoanalytic and psychodynamic theory, technique, aspects of practice, and effectiveness of psychodynamic psychotherapy and psychoanalysis
- Contributions from multiple disciplines are welcome, including research questions in ‘neighboring fields’—such as clinical, developmental and social psychology, family psychology, neuroscience, anthropology, sociology, literary criticism, historical studies, history of ideas, and art history
- Methodologies appropriate to the discipline, data, and questions (e.g. small-sample, single-subject, descriptive, and clinical research designs) are acceptable
- This Poster Session is a forum to present and share with meeting attendees:
- New, unpublished data
- New analyses of these data
- Newly designed ongoing studies
- Scholarly conceptual analyses and interpretations
Preparing and Submitting Poster Items
- Poster Description: This must be under 1,500 words, including the title, and should be double-spaced. The 1,500 limit does not include references. The submission must include sufficient data so that reviewers may evaluate Guidelines:
- Include purpose/thesis, background/relevant questions, methods, findings, discussion, and key
- Up to two tables or figures may be included, such as diagrams, pictures, graphs and illustrations of methods and results,
- Do NOT include author names on this
- Poster Abstract: This must be under 500 words, including the title and all author names (in order of authorship). This abstract should be written for the general clinician audience, with an interest in research. Please ‘translate’ newer techniques or terminology if

The deadline for submissions is midnight (Eastern Time) on Monday December 2, 2024.
Process of Review of Poster Submissions
Poster submissions will be reviewed by a Selection Committee. Three criteria will govern review:
- Clarity of formulation or conceptualization,
- Adequacy of methods,
- Appropriateness of interpretations made
Notifications of review decisions will be made in mid-December 2024. Notifications will go to the submitter by email unless another notification mode is requested.

Preparing Your Poster and the Poster Session
- Posters need to be 58”w X 35”h. Pushpins will be provided to mount
- Use text font to be visible from a comfortable reading
- Posters will be displayed from 11:15am–4.00pm on Friday February 7, 2025 (set up in the morning prior to this session). The presenter must be at the poster to answer questions for this entire

Potential Opportunity for Publication in JAPA
- After the Poster Session, the Presenter may prepare a manuscript from the Poster to be considered for potential publication by The Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association (JAPA).

- Membership in the APsA is NOT required to submit a presentation for consideration.
- The Poster Session will be open to the press. Submission of a poster presentation for review implies permission for media
