APsaA Members Urge House Energy & Commerce Committee to Recognize & Protect Right to Privacy
The American Psychoanalytic Association (APsaA), whose members are ardent protectors of medical privacy, is urging the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee to recognize and protect the right to health information privacy in the PRO(TECH)T Act currently before Congress. APsaA recognizes that the nation’s health policy is at a critical juncture. Health IT legislation, with massive government support, appears to be inevitable. Privacy protections are slipping away at a time when they are most needed as new systems are being established. On Monday, July 22, 2008, APsaA wrote an Open Letter to the members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee that not only urges them to include privacy protections in the PRO(TECH)T Act, but also lays out the historical background and the ethical and policy essentials on this crucial issue. This letter constitutes a roadmap for the country regarding electrnic health information privacy. APsaA's full letter to the members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee is available by clicking here.
