Shedler meticulously evidences psychodynamic psychotherapy's robust effectiveness, including how the process sets in motion improvement that accrues long after therapy has ended.

New Research Shows Strong Scientific Support for Psychoanalytic Therapy

Jonathan Shedler, Ph.D. recently released his much anticipated study on the efficacy of psychoanalytic therapy. The article discusses the extensive research literature demonstrating large and lasting benefits for psychoanalytic therapy, and establishes it as an evidence-based treatment. It also shows that unacknowledged psychoanalytic elements may account for treatment benefits in other forms of psychotherapy. Dr. Shedler’s study is published in the February/March issue of American Psychologist, the flagship journal of the American Psychological Association. Jonathan Shedler is an Honorary APsaA member, a leading contributor to the Psychodynamic Diagnostic Manual, and in 2004 was the first recipient of the prestigious APsaA Scientific Paper Prize.
